who are these drain people?
the drain people live the pipes of our drains, they are housemates with the drainflies. they are the mold in your forgotten crockery and the limescale on your walls. they clog up our drains with their stolen furniture and posters. we hear their music from the drains and play it for you.
‘drainfly’ is an experimental rock band based in London. The band storytell through their haunting ambience, heavy distortions, industrial drums and airy vocals. Inspired through folklore and life stories the band blur the lines between nature and modern life.
The band was formed in Bristol 2021 as 'Afraid of the Dark', by Gwen Sutterby, Ben-Lui Simpkins, Joe Phillips and Louis Webb. A move to London brought Ashleigh Seager (Hertfordshire) to the drums and Samuel Black (Southampton) to bass guitar along with the name change to ‘drainfly’.
The band's ambient grunge sound has gathered audiences for moody performances at venues such as 'Jaguar Shoes' and 'Windmill Brixton'.
